About Bobo

Finding the beauty in you.

With a background in makeup and beauty, I've always been drawn to the art of discovering what makes each person uniquely beautiful.

To me, hair is more than a cut, colour or style. It's a way to bring out the features, personality and confidence that are already there.

I take the time to understand your hair, your lifestyle and how you want to feel — then create a look that feels natural to you and easy to live with.

I don't want to change who you are. I want to bring out the best in you.

Shape reference

Length is one choice. Layering is another.

Two people can ask for the same length and walk out with two different haircuts, because the layering decides how the weight sits. These drawings show the difference between the two, side by side.

Cut spec station

Length, layering, fringe, texture, parting. Five choices decide the shape. Tap through them here and there is less guessing in the chair.

LOB · SOFT · NO FRINGE · STRAIGHT

This drawing is not what your hair will look like. It only shows how the settings differ from each other. Your own density, growth pattern, natural texture and face shape decide the real result, and no two people get the same cut from the same settings.

Everything in this station can be booked. What you pick here is a starting point for the conversation, not a locked-in booking. I look at your own hair on the day and work out how to make it yours.

Colour reference

Level first. Tone second.

Level is how light the hair is, on a scale of 1 to 10. Tone is the direction it leans — ash, gold, copper. Getting the level right is chemistry and takes time. Getting the tone right is finishing, and it is easy to adjust later.

Long blonde hair with a lightened, multi-tone finish

Levels 1 to 10

A finish like this is not one colour. It is several levels sitting close together, which is what keeps light hair from looking flat. Reaching it from a dark base is staged across more than one visit.

Colour spec station

Pick a level, a tone and a technique. The drawing updates as you go, and a note appears when the combination needs more than one session to reach safely.

7 · NEUTRAL · BALAYAGE

Screen colour is not salon colour. Every monitor renders these swatches differently, and your hair's starting level, porosity and colour history change where it actually lands. Use this to describe what you want, not to predict the exact shade.

A level and a tone are a description, not a promise. Where your hair actually lands depends on what is already in it. Anything at level 9 or 10 from a dark or previously coloured base is normally staged across two or three visits — that is how the hair survives it. I will tell you the plan and the total cost before I start.

Texture & treatment

Condition decides what is possible.

Smoothing, perming and rebonding all rearrange the inside of the hair. On strong hair they last months. On hair that has already been lightened they can break it. I check first and say so.

Keratin smoothing

Reduces frizz and cuts blow-dry time roughly in half. It softens the curl pattern rather than removing it, so hair still moves.

After care Use a sulphate-free shampoo. Sulphates strip the treatment out and can cut its life from five months to two.

Perm and digital perm

A cold perm builds curl that shows most when hair is damp. A digital perm uses heat and shows most when hair is dry, which suits a soft everyday wave.

Not always possible Bleached or heavily highlighted hair often cannot hold a perm safely. I test a strand before committing.

Straightening

Chemical straightening for hair you want genuinely straight rather than smoothed. Stronger than a keratin treatment, and permanent on the hair it is applied to.

Please note Quoted after a consultation and not bookable online. Bleached hair often cannot take it.

Japanese 3.1 treatment

An in-salon repair treatment for hair that feels rough or looks dull. Often booked alongside a colour, where it costs less than on its own.

Cheaper together Added to a colour or a perm it is $100. On its own it is $120.

On the shelf

The same products I finish with.

Four things, not forty. What leaves the salon on your hair is what you can take home, because a colour or a smoothing treatment only lasts as long as what you wash it with.

Questions

Asked often enough to answer here.

How often should I book a haircut?

Short cuts hold their shape for about 4 to 6 weeks. Mid-length and long hair can go 8 to 12 weeks between trims. Layered cuts drop out of shape sooner than blunt ones, because the layers grow at different speeds.

How long does a colour appointment take?

A root touch-up takes about an hour. All-over colour takes about an hour and a half, longer past the shoulder. Balayage and highlights are quoted after a free consultation and cannot be booked online, because the time and the price both depend on what is already in your hair.

Can I go from dark hair to blonde in one appointment?

Usually not. Lifting dark or previously coloured hair to a level 9 or 10 normally takes two or three sessions spaced several weeks apart. Trying to do it in one sitting is what breaks hair. I will tell you where your hair can safely land on the day and what the full plan costs.

How long does balayage last?

Because balayage has no hard regrowth line, most people go 3 to 4 months between appointments. A gloss or toner at around 8 weeks keeps the tone from going brassy, and costs far less than redoing the lightening.

Do you need a patch test before colour?

Yes for first-time colour clients, and again for anyone who has ever reacted to hair dye. The test is done at least 48 hours before the appointment and takes a few minutes. It is a small inconvenience against a real risk.

How long does a keratin treatment last?

About 3 to 5 months, depending on how often you wash and whether you use a sulphate-free shampoo. It reduces frizz and blow-dry time rather than making hair permanently straight — the curl pattern is softened, not removed.

Can I get a perm if my hair is bleached?

Often not. Bleached hair has already lost internal structure, and a perm rearranges what is left. I test a small strand first and will say no if the risk is too high. A refusal here is cheaper than a haircut you did not want.

Where is Glow with Bobo and do I need an appointment?

201-9005 Leslie Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario L4B 1G7. Open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., closed Sunday. Appointments are recommended for everything and required for colour, because of the time each service takes.
